Can my plan manager pay an invoice I didn't approve?
What it depends on: the approval settings on your account, whether you have asked for every invoice to come to you first, and any standing arrangements you have set up for regular supports.
What stays human: the decision to approve or query an invoice is yours. MyMoney can flag an invoice that looks unusual, but a person — you, or our team on your behalf — makes the call. We never guarantee an NDIA payment outcome.
Why this matters
Plan management sits between you, your providers and the NDIA. That is convenient — but it also means someone else is handling your funding. Before you assume any app or plan manager will only pay what you have agreed to, it is worth asking exactly how approval works.
With MyMoney, invoices from providers are captured and shown to you clearly, with the amount, the provider and the support it relates to, so you can approve, hold or query each one. The aim is that nothing is paid behind your back.
How MyMoney checks an invoice before it is paid
Our Payment Integrity checks look at each provider invoice for signs it may not be right — for example a price that sits outside the usual range, a possible duplicate, or details that do not match the provider on record. Anything questionable is surfaced rather than quietly paid.
- You can ask for every invoice to be approved by you before payment.
- Unusual invoices are flagged for a closer look, not auto-paid.
- You can see a history of what was paid, to whom, and when.
What to do if you see an invoice you did not approve
Query it straight away. Ask your plan manager to hold payment while it is checked. A good plan manager will pause, investigate with the provider, and keep you informed — not push it through.
