Is plan management free, and who pays for it?

For eligible participants, plan management is funded separately by the NDIS — it does not come out of the budgets for your other supports, and there is no out-of-pocket cost to you. The plan manager claims their fees from the Improved Life Choices funding the NDIA includes in your plan for this purpose.

What it depends on: whether plan management (Improved Life Choices) is included in your plan. If it is not yet in your plan, you can ask for it at your planning meeting or plan review.

What stays human: whether the funding is in your plan is an NDIA decision, not ours. We can explain how it works, but we never guarantee what the NDIA will include.

Where the money comes from

The NDIS funds plan management under a dedicated category (Improved Life Choices). That funding is quarantined for plan management — using a plan manager does not reduce the funding available for your therapy, supports or other services.

What you actually pay

For eligible participants, nothing. The plan manager is paid from that dedicated NDIS funding, not by you. It is worth confirming there are no extra charges beyond the standard NDIA price-limited fees.

If it's not in your plan yet

You can request plan management at your planning meeting or review. It is a common and reasonable request — many participants ask for it specifically so they can use a wider range of providers without doing the claiming themselves.
